Bridgnorth CAMRA Events

Bridgnorth branch meetings have re-started following the removal of Covid 19 restrictions in England. All are welcome, whether Camra members or not. Meetings are usually held on the fourth Tuesday of the month alternating between pubs in Bridgnorth town and those in the rural area covered by the branch. A minibus is provided for travel to the rural pubs. Places on the minibus should be booked through Alan Thwaites (hat.deecie@btinternet.com)

The next Sub-Branch meeting will be at. The White Lion, 3 W. Castle Street, Bridgnorth , WV16 4AB.  on February 20th, starting at 19:30. Chosen due to its excellent range of Ales and well worth visiting if you’ve not been before.  If we have the same turn-out as our first meeting then the pub will be full!! There will be discussions on our next Beer Festival and more ways to improve it.  Social events coming up, Brewery and Pub news, recommended pubs, and of course … The famous quiz question !

The first Sub-Branch meeting of the year at  The Bulls Head in Chelmarsh, Main Road (B4555) WV16 6BA.  had the best turn-out ever!! Some excellent discussions on local and less local pubs and plenty of social events that are coming up.

An excellent Meeting and AGM was held at the the Railwayman’s Arms, (Severn Valley Railway), Bridgnorth , which opened especially for us. An excellent turnout with good discussion on all the relevant topics.  Committee posts were retained for Social Secretary and Branch Secretary  but no replacement came forward to replace Richard Nicolls as Chairman.  Therefore this post is still available.

Our October Branch meeting was at The Bell & Talbot, Salop Street, Bridgnorth WV16 4QU.   The usual jollity and irreverent commentary on all things beery with a discussion on forthcoming AGM to be held at the Railwayman’s Arms, opening especially for us, on Tuesday 21st  , starting at 19:30.

The Beer Festival is done and dusted and the following event at the The Plough , Aston Lane, Claverley, WV5 7DX.  attracted a couple of new members (and the main branch new Chairman!) .   Extensive discussions on  the Beer Festival itself and more ways to improve it.  Brewery and Pub news, recommended pubs and the Changes at main Branch after their recent AGM.    oh, and of course … The famous quiz question:  How long did Queen Elizabeth II reign for? – in days!!!

The Sub-Branch Meeting at the George Hotel Holybush Rd, Bridgnorth. 22nd Aug.  went well, a good turnout.  Updates on the change of Managers at the Black Boy, comments on the weird Duty rates changes by the Government, Beer festival planning progress and the famous Quiz Question: Won by Alan who realised it was a trick!

An excellent meeting was had at the Chelmarsh Sports and Social Club, School Lane, Chelmarsh, WV16 6BA.  A good choice of beers and discussions about Beer Festival Progress, the latest social events, the state of play re Bridgnorth pubs, all the latest action and top notch pork pie provided by the landlord! A good evening was had at the June sub-branch meeting held at the Shakespeare Inn , West Castle Street, Bridgnorth. Interesting discussions concerning the future of one of Bridgnorth most iconic pubs.  And of course, the famous Quiz Question: How many micro-pubs exist on the Micropubs register in the U.K?   Answer: 976 !

A reminder of the Interbranch Quiz this coming Saturday (17th June) starting at around 12:30pm at the KIng’s Yard, Shifnal. A bus will be available leaving the usual spot at the SVR lower car park at 11:30am.

Sadly we’ve had to cancel the  June 10th Camra tour of Ironbridge and Broseley pubs due to the low numbers of participants making the Bus too expensive for those taking part.    But there is still the Interbranch Quiz on the 17th June at the Kings Yard Micro in Shifnal for those who would like to get involved…

Coming up in June:  June 10th (next Saturday!!) is the Bridgnorth Camra tour of Ironbridge and Broseley pubs. The three ‘Alan Thwaites’ Bridgnorth Camra survey trips went well, a good turn out and some fantastic pubs (which I’d not visited before). January 2022 meeting was at Lion O’Morfe, Upper Farmcote . This was the first attempt at a ‘reduced content’ meeting, concentrating on the interesting discussion points and leaving the Camra detailed info to the Regular monthly emails.
